The name Vikaari stands
for “CHANGE”.
A unique attempt to portray the manipulation of people with simple
minds by people in power. It is an award winning short film predominantly shot
in Sri lanka and some being shot in the UK.War has many ill effects on the
community and a huge impact on children as they don't understand the
complexities of war and the decisions of governing bodies.

The
film may have been inspired by popular TV series and films such as “The
Stranger Things” and ”The X-men”,but it brings out the essence of the movie
through its portrayal of local culture , mental health and disabilities.
The movie starts off with showing children who have evolved in
such a way that they have special powers. This abnormality occurs in the
children being born in war torn areas. The abnormalities have been on the rise for
the last couple of years around the world. The children ,nicknamed “Vikaari”
,have remarkable paranormal abilities which they can use to control objects
around them and even people.
People are afraid of change. The locals fear the children because
they don't understand and accept differences. This creates a cult that promotes
the killing of these unusual beings(people are manipulated by a talented
speaker who is afraid of these children and has political motives). Then there
is another research body that tries to help these children by identifying them
and rescuing them from the cult.
Talented actors and a gripping screenplay carry the movie at a
good pace in such a way viewers don't lose interest. It became the first Sri
Lankan film to be screened at the Screamfest Horror Film Festival. It also
bagged the best short film award at the Screamfest 2020.
A review doesn't do justice to this short
film.It only spans for 15 mins and it's a must watch for everyone.
